Foundation to Sponsor Bike Workshop at Chavis Park

The week-long program, targeted toward middle-school and high-school aged students, will be held August 22-26 from 1pm-5pm at the John Chavis Center, 505 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Raleigh. Participants will learn about bike maintenance, bike safety, and healthy food choices, to help them get outside and get active as bicyclists.

“The City of Oaks Foundation believes strongly in getting kids outdoors and active,” said Foundation Director Chris Heagarty, “We are excited to sponsor the work of these great partners on this project, and we hope it can be a model for future workshops around Raleigh.”

In order to help train young bikers, the Foundation is trying to remove the financial barriers associated with cycling, and is accepting donations of new safety and maintenance gear, such helmets, reflectors, bike locks, and wrenches. Potential donors are urged to contact Chris Heagarty at the Foundation, at 919.996.4773 or chris.heagarty@cityofoaksfoundation.org.
